Replaced a gas valve and ASD pilot assembly on a baxi bermuda back boiler yesterday. Everything working fine, lovely in fact, left the customer with hot water and heating after being without it for 2 months. However, i get a call from the customer today to say that the pilot light went out twice last night and he had to re-light it. Prior to installing the new gas valve and ASD pilot assembly, we totally stripped this appliance and gave it a good service, everything has been cleaned through, spillage tested, smoke tested, heat exchanger brushed and vaccumed etc, etc, a real good strip down and clean.

Does anyone have any pointers on nwhy the pilot would extinguish, even with brand new gas valve, pilot assembly ASD etc. Everything was great yesterday, surely that pilot shouldn't be going out at all!!

back to the appliance tomorrow, so any pointers would be great!

Did you adjust burner pressure on new valve to MI? and also adjust pilot if required? Ventilation requirements checked?

yes mate, set burner pressure to manufacturers instructions 10.5mbar, but did not make any adjustment to pilot. Reading the notes on the valve, it did say that the pilot is factory set at maximum, and if need be, it could be adjusted, but the pilot flame looked ok to me, do you think i should set the pilot to shorten the flame??

Did you replace the thermocouple ? (if not why not) all ways best to replace TC on BBU even if it looks ok as you get this sort of thing happening, if you did replace it check that its a tight connection to valve & check pilot flame is on end of TC

Yes mate, replaced thermocouple, it is all one unit with the ASD pilot assembly, comes as one part. and it is a tight connection, i made sure of that.

yes matey,

air supply route is fine, everything has been thoroughly cleaned and blown through (injector etc)

was gas rate ok?

yes Galaxy, gas rate was fine too. There was nothing to be concerned with in relation to the appliance at all when left the house, so i was just miffed as to why my customer said the pilot had gone out a couple of times in the last 24 hours.

Not much left to cover ! may have got a bit of dirt in ASD when you put it back together ! check size of pilot flame ! have you got the MI ? if not download fault chart, its showing a few options , Polarity / flue draft position of pilot flame.

This the model with vitiation tube? Made sure that clear?
Good strong pilot flame?
Flue pull good.
Check live, switch live etc correct position.

All the above ok, then could it be a gas issue? Faulty regulator perhaps?
