Hi
needing some advice.
I have an old baxi bermuda back boiler which has been working without fault for the past few years...
History
I went to Australia 4 years ago for 6 months and when I came back I had no heating or hot water...was told the flow valve was the fault so changed it and nothing so took all the radiators off and flushed them which revealed black junk through them so then arranged a power flush which cleared all excess sludge out the system and had the inhibitor added at same time.
Due to the amount of sludge it knackered the pump so had it changed straight away and the system has run flawlessly since.
Was home and had the heating and hot water on which was fine and then the next day I came home to find the heating wouldnt come on nor the hot water, what does happen is the boiler ignites and runs for about 20-30 secs then shuts off, I assume this is a thermo cut out?which is leading me to think the pump may be at fault, when i check the water coming from boiler to pump is hot...well hot enough considering it only fires for 20 secs...but after the pump its cold, I opened the bleed screw on the front of the pump and water is jetting out and this is with the pump turned off and also the pump was feeling hotter to touch than the pipe that runs into it.
I think the water valves that stop water entering the pump may not be shutting correctly as I've easily emptied a litre of water before closing the bleed screw again.

Any advice is appreciated

Hello and :welcome:
the pump valves need to be open
is the hot water pumped or is that gravity circulation?

Hiya thanks for the reply.
I live in a flat and what I think is correct is its a gravity fed system, from what I can see I think the water heated by the boiler goes through the pump and is then split by the flow valve to go either up the coil into the ho****er tank or down to the central heating pipes.
I tried to shut the valves to the pump off so I could take the bleed screw out and see if i could turn the impeller but water kept jetting out so I left it

Pump could be stuck.
You will have to put a few towels under the pump to catch the water, there shouldn't be much.
Or if you don't feel confident get in someone who is.

I do think it is the pump but problem is when I close the valves to open the pump there was so much water coming out (easily a litre) which makes me think the valves arent closing correctly so reckon the only other way is to do a drain down of the system which means replacing inhibitor again but if thats what needs to be done then I have no choice really.

leave the pump valves open with hot water or / heating on, put a pot and a towel under the pump, take out the bleed screw to the pump and twist the impeller of the pump with an electrical screw driver, that should get the pump moving again. if it doesnt and you have 240v at the pump then the pump is faulty. you might have to brave the little jet if water that comes from the pump for a couple of seconds!
