Hi guys,

I have been called out to a baxi solo 3pfl 60 that I intially had to change the fan on. about 2 weeks later I had a phone call from my mate(the spark) who said that the boiler had stop working, overheat light was on and he had reset it and it was fine. about 3days later the same again so i went out and did a load of testing pump-ok, overheat stat-ok, thermostat-ok. then reset it myself, set the potentiometer to MAX and it got up to temp and shut down and I watched it do this for a while no sign of overheat. I tried to call baxi but as usual only open till 6pm. I have a hunch as it's been so intermittent and feels like its not actually overheating that it maybe the PCB? any one else had this problem or can shed some light on it?

cheers

Sorry this is a repost from the public forum but still driving me nuts so please help

Hi Guys this heating system is really starting to get on my nerves. I noticed that the pump wasn't going into over run after the system had reached temp so I checked with baxi they said the overun is on the board so replaced the board a few days ago.

The customer has now called to say that her heating has gone off again and didnt sound impressed obviously started making me look like a a**hole. Ive check differential temps at the boiler it stays at 15deg diff at normal setting and at max so tells me there cant be anything wrong with circulation plus pump seems to be running ok. I have watched it reach temp and shutdown and the comeback on several times even at max so seems to be running fine so turn back to the normal setting and runs for 2/3days then locks out on apparently overheat but i don't see how? any help would be much appreciated getting pretty irrate about it now.

It could still be the pump acting intermittently.
Sludged impeller or loose impeller or maybe the pump is just getting old.

Like I say the pump spins ok and doesn't sound rough at all plus looks pretty young and it is a grunfoss. There was tiny little bit of kettleling coming from the boiler when it reached temp but nothing to panic about. the system seems to have a combine F&E pipe from the F&E tank and I cant see any signs of a rise in the water level in the F&E tank which would also indicate an overheat. She is disabled and doesn't go upstairs so asked her yesterday if all the TRV's were shut down and she said that they were on low. does make me wonder if air or a blockage has somehow got into the system due to all the valves being shut down low?
