Use an I pad for day to day out and about stuffs, but use windows indoors for everything else. Thinking of getting an iMac for the office when it's complete in a few weeks time...
so thumbs up or thumbs down?

thumbs down they are over priced junk, i would never buy a mac again i wish i would of stuck with windows, but i down really get the full use out of mine i only listen to music and browse the internet

rob, I have never had a Mac but a pal of mine wouldn't have anything else. over the years he has just laughed at me and the lads when we moan on about our pc's

I am no expert at all, but your I-pad, mac and especially if you use an I-phone will link up very easily. Personally I would be tempted.

If you are into video, graphics, design, photography or anything like that, then don't hesitate, get a MAC.

However, if you want to use MS office applications, or you like to get "under the bonnet" of your computers, then best avoided.

We are a split household - Mrs S and Miss S are both dedicated Mac users, but I stick to the good old PC. Apart from my iPad. And iPhone.

Absolutely, definitely, positively get an iMac!!

You can download Microsoft Office that is compatible with Mac now. Or use open source office which is better.

You won't regret getting one! They are an investment that won't let you down!

Thanks for your input guys!

Dom I get where you are coming from but I don't get the full use from my PC. It's the thought of linking my phone iPad and iMac that appeals to me.

Plus i hear that most virus's and bugs are written for windows and whilst they will get into a mac it won't do anything as the files it is looking for don't exist so it just sits there inactive

Or use open source office which is better.

Wash your mouth out Tom Lane! Excel 2013 is absolutely the finest piece of computer software in the history of computing, and is not to be compared with some open source tosh!

Eeeer ok ray that's a good joke. All. 2013 is office xp with a glossy front over. Unless he's writing macros, running huge sheets open office will be fine.

I like mac I don't like PC emulators on mac what's the point..... My mac boots windows..... My te76 has a brace and bit attachment?

Mac book pro or air. Get second had one for £500 only 3 hours old!

Not all hardware is mac compatible . Had a mac for work my Trimble instrument wouldn't work, logic plotter or auto or civil cad .

They are nice and love island keys but really mac users should stick to being creative in Starbucks or wherever, so everyone can see they are creative as they have a mac and need to use it in public !

When I'm feeling really geeky I'll boot my pc into the linux partition and laugh at the microshaft / apple sheep......

I have a pc and a macbook pro. The macbook pro has never ever crashed, froze, rebooted itself. Its pretty good.

Ray, the 1970's just rang. They've asked for their Dot matrix printer back if you don't mind!!:tongue3:

Don't expect MAC to do everything a pc can and will be ok , ( Software is pricey - but Quality )

No fighting with windows 8 is a bonus ( or get find a boffin and go Linux )

I agree with the PC lovers and the mac lovers, macs have thier advantages, so do PCs it really depends what you're going to use it for.
I'm a PC guy and for the price of a mac I could get a high end gaming PC which is why I'd go for a PC, but if you're OK with coming second in pretty much all the non-Apple software releases then go for a mac for the ease of integrating all your Apple products.

It's a bit like the Nikon or Canon debate.
They too, have their devotees who'll slate the others "poor choice" of body and lens; arguing over: whose sensors are better, which works best in low light, or the lack of quality feel to the new expensive plastic canon lens's.

The above devotees will spend thousands on equipment, then ponce about with that £10,000 - £20,000 worth of camera gear, getting "their" settings just right for that perfect shot.
Funny thing is, after taking that "perfect shot" with their seriously expensive gear, they then decide it's not quite right.
So, another 2-3 hours is spent in photoshop adjusting the image to their flavour and taste.

I can go out with my little compact, set it on auto, take a snap, then, perhaps, spend 2 minutes in lightroom, and produce an image I'm happy with.

Bottom line is.
It doesn't really matter.
Bullfinch or a Rothenberger Superfire 2, both get the job done.
