Hi all, does anyone know what the most economic temperature to run a well controlled heating system at using a condensing boiler with standard panel radiators. I had heard 70 degrees celsius was best with at most 50C return to get the latent heat from the flue gasses. Or can I run at 80C for a quicker heat up? any help would be appreciated, thanks a million. Mike

The lower the flow temperature the longer the boiler will condense for and the more efficient it will be. It's got to be a compromise between rapid heat up and efficiency though. I will generally set a boiler thermostat around the 3/4 mark and advise the customer that if the property is taking too long to heat up tweak it up a bit and if it heats up fine they can try tweaking it down until the property doesn't heat up quickly enough. It's got to to be done a wee bit at a time though to find the optimum setting.
