Aye, BG are trying to squeeze us out a bit, prices have dropped big time.

Was speaking to a bg engineer and he'd been given 15 hours to do a bbu to combi conversion vertical flu gas re run rad valves powerflush and a condense pump. Whether he did or not I don't know but I think I'm pretty quick and that would take me 24!

well a power-flush is a day before you start, so not a hope in hell unless 5 men on it

I worked for them for 5 years. Know a few guys that still doing their installs.
Lucky if that power-flush unit comes out the van on most jobs!

I buy my fernox inhibitors and cleansers from an employee of a large national company, enough said .

Going back a few years if you didn't spend all day power flushing they went mad at you and made you go back and redo it, but then you did used to get 2 days for a combi swap and powerflush.

To be honest though, I think it's worth paying a little bit more if the system is going to last longer and be more reliable by doing the work properly. It's when things get way too expensive that the pros are outweighed. I'd hope that paying a bit more meant you got a bit more.

I wasn't moaning just really surprised. The client wasn't moaning, as far as he knows he is getting an equally good install from British gas as he would from an independent. He would have preferred to use me as he knows me well and I have worked for him for a fair while but cest la vie and all that. The job was very involved in a huge house with hunter pipework everywhere, it was never going to be an easy job, and one I worried I hadn't allowed enough on.

If BG are so much cheaper, good luck to them, I cant match what they are doing and I don't have either their economies of scale or overheads. I still reckon they may have priced it a bit wrong but its not my problem now.

I was just gob smacked to be under cut by them, its never happened before! I don't think its a universal strategy either as I'm doing another one which they priced for and apparently I'm well priced according to the client. Such is life, win some, lose some, no point doing a job which is a load of hassle for little to no profit.

And I did allow a day for a powerflush, 2-3 hours is just not enough surely?

The problem is the customer pays more BG don't so even if the customer pays 2k over the installer is still having his hours cut down to stupid hours so they take shortcuts and do a poor job. ( not everybody is the same)

The amount of time it takes to get it all out and set up it hardly seems worth it for a couple of hours! But yep maybe better than no flush at all, just 🙂
