Hi Guys

I was looking for some help, an interesting development has turned up and as I am not a gas safe plumber I do not hold this info to hand.

A customer from Scotland has asked if my device, hotun, can be installed downstream from a boiler in the PRV.

Now my first and obvious reaction was "I can see no reason why not" but I have been told by one manufacturer that the warranty on the boiler will only be valid if the installation complies with BS6798:2014.

Has anyone got this BS or more helpfully got the specific section that deal with the discharge from the PRV?

I know two things, the discharge pipework

1/has to be capable of withstanding temperature in excess of 100degC and up to 110degC (hotun has this rated temperature

2/ must not have any restrictions that may lead to a blockage

These are the same (or very similar arguments) that are pertinent to Unvented PRV discharge lines.

If anyone could shed any light I would very much appreciate it

Many thanks

Russell

I can't offer anything positive but, I would imagine most manufacturers wouldn't be too happy to endorse something that wont make them money
Don't get me wrong, I wish you every success, I just think it would be like Worcester promoting a Magneclean just before they came up with their own magnetic filter

Hi Guys

Just got this from Ideal, they have told me that the BS for the installation of the PRV can be found under BS 6798 clause 7.4.3

Now I don't suppose anyone has got a copy of that paragraph I could "borrow" have they?

Many thanks chaps

7.4.3 Pressure relief valve – point a) amended and expanded upon to allow other materials that are not metallic to be used where this material is acceptable to either the boiler or pipe manufacturer (2009 5.4.3.2 a) stipulated metallic only).

Additionally, a new point b) regarding pressure relief for sealed system boilers installed below ground-level (basements) has been made from text within 2009 standard.

Sorry, Russell thought there was more than that didn't realise it was just a snippet,
Stani.

Aw man

Cheers stani. The lady said that was the clause that mattered to terminating to outside in solid pipe and then it being returned against the wall.

back to the drawing board
