Just wasted a few hours reporting landline fault to BT.
Did normal tests, phone plugged into master socket, internal socket etc.
Engineer booked subject to my agreement to pay £129.99 for any fault within the property.
As all wiring and socket were done by BT I was reluctant to pay for fault on BT equipment.
The people at BT were reading from a script and much pressure was put on me to agree the charge unconditionally.
Only after extensive correspondence via the internet did BT concede responsibility up to main socket.
They knew problem was at or prior to main socket because that was where they tested the phone.
Extortion best describes how I feel.

In fact the best thing ever about BT was my old BT mobile....
£10 credit. Let it get down to a few pence then do a sequence of buttons and it was back upto a tenner again lol. A known glitch

weve just had the same with my motherinlaw bt tried to charge her for a repair inside the house but it turns out shes still paying rental on the additional sockets since bt installed them 30 years ago it was on her bills listed as unknown charge

BT are absolute pap!! My internet is so slow but they still insist it's 30 million mega hurtz!
