just a quickie,I'm doing a job tomorrow where the customer was having a prob with the c/h so a system cleaner was added(by a previous plumber) and i'm going round to basically give it a bit of a flush out(i was just going to empty it,get rads off and blast with the garden hose and refill and empty it a couple of times),now i get the impression that this could've been added several months ago and i'm pretty sure that most of these cleaning products aren't meant to be in system for more than a few hours/day or two at most,so im wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and tell me if this stuff is left in long term what possible side effects it might have?(just trying to cover my arse!🙂)
Cheers!

Depends on which cleaner was used. Some say it should only be left in for a few hours, others say you can leave it in indefinitely.

With any luck the previous plumber left the can in the loft.

cheers diy,i'll check in the morning with him.I'm just a bit concerned about the length of time its been in as its a set price job and want to try and avoid any costly problems 🙂

cover yourself in that you cant guarantee your flushing will fix the problem. i say this because i had done same to 2 rads not heating up fully. still arent, i changed her boiler previous, obviously cleansed then flushed then returned to try and get to the bottom of it using your method. 2 bills later and now i am recommending a power flush. which i dont do.

Be careful some of the chemicals can rip the system apart if you are going to apply mains do it gently and only one rad at a time. Hopefully they have only put sludge remover in.

Whenever I do rad work I always put sludge remover in and give the customer the option of 2 hours or the max working time of 4 weeks as per the instructions. I like this cos I get to return check all is well and often get further work out of it, a bit of after sales if you get my drift 😉

Let us know how you have got on.

thanks winston, really appreciate everyones advice and i'll post tonight

why dont you do power flush ? you can hire machine if you dont have one.but even with power flushing some rads are to far gone .

turns out one of the rads was badly corroded so the job's delayed until next week while I wait for the new rad to arrive
