Boulter Camray 3 (not 5 as title!) severe bearing whirring - I think its the motor or pump. The boiler was 85% efficient about a year ago so too good to change so I'm going to replace both the motor & pump to be on the safe side.

Questions please:
1. Can the motor be removed without taking the burner off - if so where are the fixings/is there clever way of doing it?
2. The pump is a Riello 3006922 from the Camray spec sheet. Its unobtainable so is there an alternative?

Many thanks for your help - I'm new to this forum so I hope I've come to the right place!

If you change the oil pump you will need to redo all the combustion settings. Make sure you have the oil gauges, smoke pumps and flue gas analyser. If your not in the trade it would be cheaper to get an engineer to diagnose, repair and recommission. ( plus a service)

A bearing whirring sound is probably the bearings! Changing bearings, motor or pump will need all settings tested and adjusted. You said you are going to change motor and pump for safety, get an engineer in for safety, it will work out cheaper.

All replaced. First plumber left the bypass screw in so couldn't get it working and gave up after 3 hours, second plumber didn't know about the return pipe setup so didn't want to have a go. Third plumber fixed the work of the first, found the fan had been set wrong in the shaft so reset it and got it all up and running. Total cost pump/motor/two plumbers £430 oh well.
