Hello Everyone,

*

I’m in serious need of your help!* This is a somewhat long story so please stay with me.

*

Background:

- Brand new house

- 3 stories

- 5 bedrooms

- 5 bathrooms

- 24KW Condensing boiler

- 300L megaflow

- Underfloor plumbed heating on all three floors

- Each manifold for the underfloor has a pump

*

Initial setup:

- Hot water pipe comes out of boiler

- T junction

- On one side you have the 300L megaflow

- On the other side you have the underfloor heating system

- There is a valve on the way to the megaflo

- Clock based system to control when the megaflo has power and to open the valve

*

Initial problem when we moved:

- Heating was working but house wasn’t getting warm (past 18*c)

- Hot water set to be “on” between 8AM and 8PM

- Hot water was never hot – only luke warm

*

Initial diagnosis by plumbers:

- All the flow at the T junction being stolen by underfloor system, so not enough hot water getting to megaflop

*

Initial “fix”

- Installed a pump after the valve to get more flow into the megaflo

- Turn downed all the heating pumps from “2” to “1”

*

Result:

- Slightly hotter water

- Heating only luke warm

*

2nd “fix”

- Change the clock timer to a two zone version

- Set times such that when the heating is on the hot water is off

- When the hot water is on the heating is off

*

Result:

- Heating works when it’s on

- Hot water works when it’s on

- If you run the tank out of water you get cold!

*

Everyone I speak to says this clock setup is wrong – that both hot water cylinder and the heating system should be able to call for heat independently, and that the boiler should be able to supply both systems simultaneously.

*

The plumbing say “it’s not their problem, it’s an electrical / wiring issue”.

*

But I don’t understand how that can be the case.* Is not that the boiler simply isn’t producing enough hot water?

*

Many thanks for your help!
