Think for now I'll stick with soldering - I don't do much install work at the moment - that's a privet tool but if it makes installs quicker and easier that's good

also doesnt matter if theres water in the pipe but understand and tbh you only need/ use it in commercial setting dont many dont use it on domestic unless your doing boiler swaps

you know, I had forgotten all about this stuff and clip everything where I can or run plastic through a drilled hole in the joists.. but you cant always do that.
where do you get it?
Most plumbers merchants. Just ask for wrap around hair felt lagging.

Yes we used to use it for lagging!!:ciappa:

Wash your mouth out with soap that's a swear word

And any good local suppliers ( we use city plumbing which are PTS , also we use bss)

But don't use the lag stuff use the hair felt strips about 2" wide

Piece of dpm (damp proof membrane) does the job well around pipes where there is little space - especially like drilled holes in joists.
Pipes won't creak on heating if any attempt is made to keep them not jammed tight

That was an 8 pack of hair felt in that first link for £18, - so over £2 a roll.
I used to spend longer double lagging hair felt than it took to install the pipes. Glad to only use it now for stopping creaks.

In the 90s ?

Assume that is derogatory.
Unfortunately also and mainly in the 80s and the 70s.
Only used Armaflex on some heating pipes or cold exposed areas or where the customer could afford to spend extra. Really was a cost saving.
I did like the nylon heavy hair felt lagging though. Tough and won't burn.
Obviously used Armaflex in buried places

Didn't want to offend you if I went too far back 😀

It was all the little hairs sticking out of the hairfelt. I know I set the stuff on fire from a flame a couple feet below. Eventually decided to remove all lagging anywhere near soldering, or at very least a damp cloth around it.
The worst lagging is the really old dusty lagging that has a brown paper over it. It will all go up in flames.

For those new to press fit (Geberit Mapress / Yorkshire Xpress) - BSS will hire the tool to you for a week for about £50 (Plus VAT), so until you can convince the Geberit rep to give you one free (tee hee 🙂 ) then hiring one is a good option, - just maximise your time / use of it.

BSS and Pipecentre stock it, City Plumbing / Plumbcentre don't tend to (Well not round here anyway)

We use it exclusively - there's solar rated versions also 🙂
