Bit excessive to change the ballvalve for a split diaphragm isn't it?

I have done that on several occassions where it's the only way to get everything to fit.

Or when I've advised the customer that the ballvalve looks manky and while I'm here...

Sometimes when I've removed the cistern I've disturbed the fill valve seal when undoing the connection which causes a leak. I then just use a new fill valve.

A foam donut washer and use rubber tap washers (screw them on to widen the hole) over the bolts with a metal washer before this. It's probably better to strip out ALL the stuff in the cistern, dry everything off, fit new sealing washers to same and reseal them to the cistern. Don't use silicone, Plumbers Mate or any jointing compound as it's not needed and only makes it harder next time to remove things from the cistern. I always use Fluid Master stuff on everything.

I get them for £11 pts, they will also save on future cost if it goes again

is that after a discount mikegas? foolstation's are best part of £19. i've installed metro 3-part syphons a few times to save on future mantenance but i think they're £9 ish so £11 for a turbo would pretty a brilliant price.

yeah its with discount, metros are only a couple of quid cheaper

Think WaterTight needs to shop around for better prices £20.00 for a Turbo88 can get 2 for that price !!

If waters coming through wing nuts and your using the steel plate its almost certain that its the dougnut.
I use pts dougnut kits all the time as i find when your alighning nuts up to cistern the bolts remain rigid which helps getting the wing nut on. And the dougnuts are of a good quality as a few people have said rubber or foam i only tend to use foam when using push btn types
I always use dudley turbos or metros d shaped for more space when i fit the fluidmaster fill valve with brass shanks

Thanks for all the great feedback guys, I'm glad to say its all complete! I stripped it all down, cleaned the old silicone off and picked up a foam doughnut washer. Everything fine and fully working now. Thanks again.

Couldn't get much more 'snaggier' than that one! I did one today at work haha, an absolute breeze compared. It's the awkward ones that make you better though ay

Yep, if it was all easy everyone would be a plumber!
