Hiya, Just fitted a close couple cistern for a friend but it won't sit flush to the wall.. infact anywhere near it.. its about a good inch/inch a half from the wall..

The connector is currently a 90 degress one.

Just wondering if there is anything i can do? anything i can put behind it?

At the risk of sounding obvious a piece of timber that is 1 to 1.5 inches wide running the length of the cistern.

Screw the wood to the wall and silicone the cistern to the timber or screw the cistern to it. Either is good.

Would a space saver (swan neck) angled pan connector get you any closer? If not as secret squirrel has said.

In my mum's house the guy who installed her bathroom (when i was at school and didn't know what a pair of grips where) put a bit of wood behind the cistern. It's still there now. I look at it every time I go round. It protrudes visibly about an inch either side of the cistern across the wall. Every time I see it I imagine him not being able to find his tape measure, measuring by eye, fixing it to the wall, putting the cistern on, standing back, mumbling numerous expletive, looking at his watch, maybe 4.30 on a friday, and thinking "ahh that'll do...."

At the moment Ive packed it from the wall with copper if that make senses, I'm guessing the wood option is alot more safer and more useful. When i was in my apprenticeship the guy who i was learning with did this a few times but not as much as a good inch of the wall.

if its a rigid 90 connector remove and cut a bit off the soil pipe as necessary and replace with a flexi connector.i've done it a couple of times to gain that inch when the pipe is proud of the wall because of clips etc. This assumes that the soil pipe goes to the left or right and not down under floor in which case you would need a swan neck connector.

It goes under the floor.

Presume plumb centre will sell a swan neck connector?

Do you guys reckon i should refit it with a swan neck or leave it how it is then? should i charge again? etcetc? I did tell my friend that i couldn't get it closer back to the wall and at the time he agreed that would be alright.

Also, what happens if the swan neck would make it go too far back if that make sense? =s

i dont tend to use the swan necks as they get blocked when people put wipes down them cos of the shape, you could always use a bit of 15mm plastic trunking for covering pipes ,with a piece of wood inside so it looks neat thats what i do if the wall is out or the cistern wont go back

Fitted lots of swan necks never had a blocked one !!!!

Can't you tilt the WC backwards a little and whack a lump of wood in underneath at the front?

Total pain some of these new WCs I must admit!
