Like most modern cars/vans they add something they never did before !
(Shes been a good motor , Clutch Dual/mass stayed in one piece - despite me insulting it)
I've let her move on to some-one with deeper pockets at 70k miles , I sense expense .
1.6 Hdi berlingo 2006 vintage .

Anyone else had the expensive squeal , on an alternator ?
Mine may have had version spares would not fit !

Blower was on way out and winters on its way ..(The list was long and boring )

70 thousand miles is low mileage for a ten year old van, I think some members on here do that in a week.

I actually hate driving, not so much the actual driving but all you other barstocks ....just Back off...I'll pull out when I'm ready!!

My company supplied VW Transporter freewheel bearing seized up and caused the tensioner to come off block earlier this year.
AA said the bearing had probably been failing and had vibrated the bolt loose and it couldn't take the shock.

Mileage at the time was 155000

£550 to repair at VW.
New pulley with the bearing in, new belt tensioner and new belt.
Parts were around £300.
Could have bought aftermarket parts for around £100

The clue should have been it had snapped the alternator belt 3 weeks earlier.

All modern diesels have the freewheel bearing, it protects the alternator from surging/vibration the same as the Dual mass flywheel does for the clutch.
