Hi everyone.

I am nearly at the ens of my City & Guilds 6129 level 2 at college and was wondering whether to try go find work with a qualified plumber full time or bite the bullet and stay on at college and do my level 3?

Any feedback will be greatfully appreciated!

If you can find the work I'd jump at the opportunity. There are so many people hunting for the first rung on the plumbing ladder. Best of luck!!!

Hello,
You don't need level 3 and experience is everything, try and find some work , then get your NVQ level2, then you can move on to getting your gas.
Like you I descided to have a career change just over a year ago and did my 6129 L2, then I looked for work which was not easy. I sent out hundreds of letter to plumbing companys and enventually got offered a job, I am just finishing my NVQ L2, then I can start on my gas.
It's tuff getting that 1st job and sometimes you feel like giving up, but keep going and once you have some experinence doors start opening.

Good Luck

i wud never say you dont need a level 3. if you were going for a job with a level 3 and somebody else had a level 2 who do you think would be looked upon more favourably?

i agree tht experience is required as at the moment there are 100s if not more plumbers with quals but without experience, go for the job

you dont need any quals to do your gas level 2 or 3, so dont read too much into that. again, it is easier to get the required knowledge for gas if you do have a level 3, id say in your case though to find work and get nvq2, then look to do level 3

level 3 trains you for your acs and you only have to do 1 portfolio and thats the nvq you can then walk straight into the test centre

hi Al,

What did u do in the end, find work or do the level 3. I'm having the same conundrumand was wondering if u could share your experience?
