Hi guys,
living in a 40 year old ex council house. Coal fire, back boiler (totally enclosed) and the pump has been quite noisy for a few years now, more so upon start up and then it's just a whine or hum throughout each room. I suspect it's just simply a build up of sludge and the pump is working overtime to move it.
I know how much heating engineers can cost as I used to help a mate of mine fit boilers, I'm not expert at all but I remember he used to always fit a magnatec filter, I was always impressed with the amount of sludge it would pick up. Is this the solution?
I'm not sure I have the space to fit one of them within the cavity where the pump is. I'd like to do this myself to save money but I'm just not sure whether to bite the bullet and hook up a powerflush system and put new inhibitor in. Again, I suspect that's what the system needs as well as a new pump. Grundfos of course.
Any help or advice appreciated and an idea of what it might cost to get this fixed before the really cold weather kicks in, I'm in the north of Scotland.
Cheers
