I was advised that my combi boiler would be more efficient if it had the 15mm pipe replaced by a 22mm one, and if i had the boiler replaced it would almost certainly need the 22mm pipe on an new boiler.

The bloke that did it ran into some problems running the new pipe but eventually finished the job.

When i got the invoice the itemised list mentioned a 22mm meter connection (the boiler's the only thing on gas in the house) but not one for the boiler.

I then looked under the boiler and as the new 22mm pipe reaches the boiler there's a reducing connector back down to 15mm and into the original conector to the boiler.

Is this normal/correct if not should i insist on a 22mm connector before i pay the invoice

this is perfectly normal as the boiler probaly only has a 15mm connector the larger pipe give increase gas as most preasure is lost in friction along the pipe walls
