Hi,

I have a Highflow 440 boiler and have a suspicion the condensate trap is blocked up, reasons are:

- Fault reading 'EA' (flame not igniting)
- Gurgling noise on and off for about a minute before displaying fault sign
- Another forum user said this is a common problem with this model!

I have the manual on how to locate the condensate trap, could some offer simple step by step instructions on how to clean it?

Some specific questions: (these may be really silly so apologies but help is really appreciated)
- Do I need to turn off the water / gas / electric?
- Do I need to refill the condensate trap with water before replacing?
- Are there any watch-outs or significant risks?

Many thanks,
Rob

You have to be GSR to clean a condense trap as it would involve the removal of the boiler cover, but you could check that your drain/waste is not blocked where the condense terminates and make sure the externally run condense pipe is not blocked - if its outside then tip a kettle of water over it

Thanks for the quick response.

I've checked that the external pipe is not frozen, and the drain is not blocked... any other suggestions?

Tom, thanks very much - you're right this does look like it is the issue. The black pipe from the condensate pump to the drain has a clear strip and it looks really blocked up.

Is it safe to simply unfasten the pipe from where it connects to the drain and can it be cleaned without calling out a pro? any advice in the next 24 hours would be appreciated.
