Was re-piping under a bath from a 22mm elbow up to new taps. Went to stick bit of 22 into existing elbow and it wouldn't fit. Checked pipe wasn't distorted, swapped round tried other end, no joy. Tried pipe in one of my 22mm fittings, fitted fine. 3/4" elbow then. Fine, I can get round that. But thought I'd make doubly sure by checking a 3/4" tap connector would screwing onto thread of elbow. It didn't. So I checked whether the nut of a new 22mm compression fitting would screw on to it. It did. So I had a 22mm fitting that would only take 3/4" pipe. Well, can't really be 3/4" pipe then. So I took the offcut of presumed 3/4" pipe and tried a 22mm olive on it. Too loose. Went to van, got a 3/4" olive. Fits fine.

So stuck original pipe back in using original live and nut still on it and used a 3/4" to 22mm s/r coupler to change to 22mm.

Worked fine, but still completely confused.

3/4" tap connector would screwing onto thread of elbow?????
they wont fit a compression elbow anyway tap connector threads are either 1/2 inch bsp to 15mm or in your case 3/4 bsp to 22mm

Ok well I obviously misunderstood a post of System's. I seem to remember he said if you get stuck a 22mm tap connector will fit on a 3/4" fitting. Which, as it doesn't, would suggest I've partaken in my favourite hobby of being a ****nut.
