Hi,

We have a 600mm x 1400mm SIngle Panel/Convector radiator in our hallway that is a reasonable size and may in the future be used as a dining area.

We are having a new boiler and rads installed soon, and was considering getting a vertical rad to replace the old one, so it frees up a lot more space, allowing more flexibility in potential room layout.

Are there any cons to using a vertical rad compared to a traditional horizontal one?

Cheers

Only problem is in fixing it. You need something solid to fix to.
If you have brick/block walls it is not a problem. Plasterboard walls will need a pad put in behind the plasterboard.

I personally don't like vertical rads in rooms except bathrooms or a kitchen at a push.

They just never look right, they also have lower outputs than standard radiators.

double the rad up if you're looking for space 600-1400 single to 600-700 double. Or one in the middle double panel single convector.

Cheers for the info.

Can anyone recommend a good brand to go for with reasonable pricing?

Im not looking for anything mega stylish or out there design wise, happy for it to be reasonably simple in design.

The ones I have worked on always seem to give poor performance . I would stick with what you have.

We used to have one in our kitchen - it looked great.
I think it was about £400 new and we sold it on ebay for about £100.
There are loads of places to shop.
I like the stelrad range - but that is just what I know.

Another reason for choosing a vertical radiator is that I could use it to help conceal the pipes that currently come down the wall to the current radiator we have in the room.

Are there any vertical rads that take the pipe feed from the top of the radiators, so minimal pipe work coming from the ceiling is required?

Cheers
