Defintly buy yourself a core drill to much strain on a sds for all the holes we do I have a core, 24v cordless and a 240 drill for tough walls and light kangoing
Been using normal SDS for upto 68mm.
I'm going to get this drill for the bigger stuff, if I ever need one and can justify it.

I have a Macrist, good piece of kit but seems an awkward shape and it weighs a ton.

Had sparky - gave me white fingers (made in my country bulgaria)
Had bosch - lovelly tool sold it as i got hilti on a really good price
have hilti dd110 with 5" and is just the tool to have
if you can aford one go for it , ebay is place to look for one !

I cant be bothered with a core drill i go straight down brandons and rent out a a hoofing great drill

be careful when buying HILTI on ebay etc. know of two people who have bought them off ebay taken them the shop for some reason or other and hilti holding them because there not registered in their name ! I.E STOLEN !!

My old firm had a Dewalt, seemed decent. Only bought Macrist cos it was well priced at the time and came with decent warranty.

We bought a sparky one this week. The bigger one. Piece of junk.
I didn't drill the hole, but I could hear the clutch slipping all the time. Seems that all the manufacturers are too concerned with our well being and set the clutches so weak that a ten year old could use the drill.
Our last core drill was a Makita, it was great. Old and heavy, you had to hold on to it.
We're returning the Sparky. The Dewalt one was only £10 more. We're gonna try that.

Lidl were selling a set of 2 core drills last week at a ridiculously low price, with tungsten carbide teeth.
I was driving past a Lidl this week on a job and turned round to go look at their aisle of tools and junk. (I love that aisle so much).
I bought a few things, work gloves, wind up torch, drain unblocker (exact same unblocker in Screwfix for £30 paid £7), and a sand blasting attachment for a compressor.
Love it!!

They would be OK for a DIYer who is only going to instal one boiler and needs to drill the flue hole ;-)
Dont buy the Dewalt D21570. My one done the bearings in 6 months. Dewalt repaired it for free, but i had to drive 15 miles to Croyden to get it to the repair centre. Now i have had it back about 2months and it is noisey again, its got a clutch that snatches really bad. It cost just over £200 but i think you need to spend at least £250 for a decent one.
Thanks for that. The Dewalt one I was gonna buy was £209 so prob same drill. Haven't checked the number (it's in the Screwfix catalogue).
When you say the clutch snatches, I think that is a good thing. Clutches on most drills are too weak. If you're core drilling you want it the clutch strong enough to protect the core drill connection in the chuck, but you should be strong enough to hold on to it.
Once, I used a big drill with no clutch, coring a 120mm hole. It snatched and snapped the bit in half, after chewing it, and giving me a big shove! Dangerous!

Ever tried using a large core drill without the central pilot drill? I saw a plumber do it once, it was frightening.

mate of mine is a kitchen fitter i lend him my 5 inch for extractors and he refuses to use the center drill at all and never spins and marks any other bricks? crazy i use center drill untill dimond is fully into the brick then remove works for me. used to use a old direct power sds from screwfix lasted me 2 years and cost me £35 now have the hilti with vacume system and water feed its the dogs!! guess thats what happens when working for a tool hire center who refuse to pay!

I remove the pilot after it's bedded in, as it's not doing anything after that.
I want that Hilti system. Sounds like the mutts danglies.
Powerful Hilti SDS which is designed to do coring as well. Expensive investment but will last a lifetime and drill holes and chisel as well as cut cores.
