Welcome to Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice | Plumbers Forums | A forum for plumbers advice in the UK!

Hi pip and welcome to UKPlumbersForums.co.uk!

i used met uk but be carefull its really hard to get placements these days for the gas courses to build your portfolio
also they are like most centres experiencing a downturn in booking nos
also a lot of the equipment is quite old and doesnt need much taking apart
the problem is even once qualified gas companies are not really wanting to take on someone who has maybe only 20-25 jobs in his portfolio of evidence of competency in gas
so think very carefully
so many people are being sold the dream of 50000gbp plus earnings for plumbers and gas engineers the reality is this is poss for well established fully time served engineers who have excellent contacts
newly qualified fast trackers are going to be lucky to get a job with a company and will have to try and scratch a living self employed
dont forget
van
public liability
tools
van insurance
van tax
van running costs
advertising
time spent quoting but not getting jobs
stationary
and so on

People dont seem to build in these costs, also the unpaid work like quotes, dealing with suppliers. Time not just for the job but tidying up, call backs, no holiday pay, any appointments lie dentist etc come out of your own hours. Build that into the 15pound an hour for a job and it soon becomes 6pound an hour!!!!!!!! id rather work as an order picker!
Money comes with time, most want 'FAST TRACK' even after fast track it takes 3/4/5/6 years or more to become established and earn your 15pound an hour.
we have said it all before though - pipe dreams
