Courses beyond level 2

View the thread, titled "Courses beyond level 2" which is posted in Plumbing Courses on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hi all, a bit of background and a question below, cheers in advance for any advice.

I started my career with an indentured apprenticeship as a plasterer (quite a long time ago), which became “multi trade” based some years later, during which I completed a ‘carousel course’ which covered all aspects of commercial maintenance. I left that particular business around 2009 and after several years of working with a company who primarily carried out plumbing works (me being employed as a plumbing improver / plasterer / patcher.) I completed my level 2, 6035-2 in late 2014 as an evening course at a local college.

Since then I have worked as a general plumber for a couple of different businesses and have had very little issue during this time. However, I have recently been approached in relation to additional training / qualification and was hoping some of you more worldly folks might be able to point me in the right direction.

I have been asked to undertake some further training as a part of the company I work for’s “ongoing development programme.” The courses offered are G3/HWSS & CWAS - or, 6035-3 (level 3 diploma.) Now either will be at their expense and completed in their time, however, I’m struggling to clear up what would be more useful in the future, should I wish to move on to another business / new venture.

I understand the level 3 is based much more around system design, heating calcs, allows for gas quals etc ? G3 & CAWS are more practical based ? However I’m not sure in the short, medium & long term which is likely to have a better impact on my ability to continue working for larger contractors ? I’m unlikely to ever want to be in a design based role, does this make the level 3 somewhat redundant ?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Cheers,
Luke.
