I thought because we seem to be having nothing but customers from hell, this makes a change.
I have been doing an accessible bathroom this week for 20+ yr old with severe difficulties, dad is my age in his 60s keeps brewing up, talking etc, really nice bloke, yesterday he left me in the house at dinner because he and wife had an appointment.
saw him today asked if he was ok, just been given 3-6 months with cancer, I had to go away for an hour, went back and apologised, he sat me down and brewed up, explaining it was ok, he had sorted everything out, loved the bathroom and thanked me for taking the time to talk to him. Why do the nice ones die, and all the **** continue claiming benefits, robbing and getting away with it.
( I lost my brother in law 12 months ago to this same cancer which is why I had to disappear)

I get the terrible feeling that the decent, mostly older generation that treat you well, are disappearing sadly.
An old customer friend of mine has just died & she really cared about people, but called things as they are. Decent old soul & sadly had a bad last few weeks, I think with the dreaded big C, but I wouldn't wish it on my enemy tbh.

There was a wee old woman lived near me who called me out regularly to fix her heating. It was always the room stat turned down by her carers and the old girl, being bed bound, couldn't turn it back up. I always made us both a cup of tea while checking everything else was okay then sat chatting with her for 10 minutes or so. Never took any money but when she died she left me a bookcase full of books as I'd told her I loved reading. They've been donated to various libraries and bookshops now, except for two. A collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling and Two Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome.

2 weeks ago I went to a house and the thermo shower was leaking. 2 blokes had been out and didn't even touch it, just said "new shower". In the house was an 11 year old autistic lad who has stomach cancer and he has a colostomy bag etc so needs the use of the shower so his mom can wash him. 30 seconds later with a new shower hose in hand the shower was fixed(hose split at the base). The little lad walked up to me with a replica wrestling belt, put it round my leg, hugged my other leg and told me that I was "The Champion of the world" I told him that HE was the champion , didn't charge for the job, got back in the motor and blubbed like a baby into my hoody for 10 seconds🙂 it was emotional.

Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference to people, and we always need to remember the glass needs to be half full, not half empty, we never know what's round the corner

i went to a job a few years ago, an old dear in her 80's, no hot water. Council asked us to install an electric shower. When i got there, the dears old Ascot heater wasnt working and she had been boiling kettles and pans on the oven for 27 years!! because she didnt want to bother anyone. After a chat with the housing inspector we got them to fit a combi.
She was absolutely chuffed.

If it seems like the good die younger than the bad it might be because the poor die younger than the rich. And while the rich often succumb to the selfishness associated with guaranteed freedom and independence, the poor need to rely on each other to get by and so develop greater empathy and put greater store by solidarity.

Anyway, this has all made for moving reading and makes me want to reconsider my sideline in fake charity collections and distraction burglaries.
