My Grandad was involved, although I don't think he landed on D Day itself. He was an armoured car driver in 7th Armoured Div, the "desert rats" and made it all the way through North Africa, fought in Italy and then in Normandy. By the time I knew him in the 60s and 70s he was the most peaceful, quiet man imagineable.
Hats off to them all - the whole generation.
Germans and Russians had fairly big balls too! Not all German soldiers were voluntary !
Or call him rude names and publicly apologise later......
