ID'd a boiler today and capped it off with the customer's permission. Leaking primary HEX on a condensing boiler. Large leak of CH water and condensate from the burner box out into the airbox on a Potterton Promax HE heat only boiler on an open vented system.

Reason for ID was the leak was already working nicely on corroding the gas pipe between the gas valve and the fan. Case was also starting to corrode.

My view was I didn't want to walk away without capping it off or getting Transco to do it as if that pipe corroded through the boiler could go bang.

Right or wrong call?

Cheers. Wasn't sure which way to 'grade' it tbh. Doesn't really matter tbh as the end result should be the same for the customer. Went ID as I felt I would have wanted Transco to cap off gas supply if they wouldn't let me cap the boiler off.

Significant corrosion on gas pipe etc would only be AR. Would have to have physically perforated the gas pipe or combustion box to make this ID.

But you made call & were given permission to cap so all is good!

If you are in doubt call Gas Safe or...if you are vascillatting between 2 options I always take the more extreme option just in case.
