Taffman

Hello all,
Went to a worcestor 28i that was lighting with a bang and then lockout and wouldnt relight until reset and then once again it would light with a bang and lockout.
The customer said that he 'recently' had two different GSRs (???) out who changed the gas valve and AAV??? to cure this problem.
When I removed the cover the boiler was corroded really badly, the burner was also rusted so much that the ports in places where just holes and to top it off, the burner was not bolted either at the back of the combustion chamber or at the front, with the burner tray literally sitting on the bottom of the chamber with no support at all.
When i did remove the burner to show the custy the amount of dust and corrosion that came out was unbelievable. I did ask the custard who the GSRs were, but he was unsure now, even though it was within the last 2 months?
Needless to say I ID'd the boiler, capped off and am returning in the week to fit a new combi.
UNBELIEVABLE

There is no support for that burner it pushes on to the injector at the back and there should be two screws at the front below that middle nut. I do agree on the id if the burner was corroded

If that Is right then there was not much for it to push back onto, as I said unbelievable!

Hey taffman there's loads of life left in the old girl yet, a wee Hoover a spray of WD 90 and she can be resuscitated,,,, lol

i did think that myself Kris, however, it was when i looked at the water stains on the PCB that finally sealed the deal!!!

They all more less like that this stage. As mentioned a good clean out...job done!
The burner just held in place by locating over injector at rear and by cover at front.

Seen loads like that a good clean up of the burner or if it's in to bad a state and the ports are corroded then replace the burner, give the heat exchanger a good clean out then chances are it will work perfectly, the rust on the bottom doesn't look too bad but give it a good clean find the worst part and see if it's rotten all the way through.

This is the problem with Alot of people not servicing correctly it has probably just had an analyser lobbed in it taken burner pressure and walked out.

In all fairness though it has had a good life and would really be due replacement in a couple of years anyway so if they are happy with a new boiler I wouldn't try and discourage them.
