Did I give up too easy on plumbing career?

Hi all

I have posted recently about trying to get back into the plumbing game and looking for some work experience at a higher level to what I had learned.

I'm now 38 years old and left the plumbing game 9 years ago as I worked for a maintence firm that had a contract with councils as their contractor.
These guys could have had a loyal novice plumber but they screwed my confidence by giving me between 9 and 12 jobs a day and was not supportive at all. Sending us operatives long distances was impossible.

I admit I hadn't completed a city and guilds course but barring heating controls and S plans Y plans etc I was pretty good. I don't mean that as a big head but I was self taught and had no apprenticeship.

Was this unrealistic of them and their expectations or should I just stay out of the game? I feel if I worked along a time served plumber I would have been ok.

Grateful for honest thoughts folks.

TBH that's standard but I will say this depending on what type of job it was eg cylinder swap you won't do any more than 2 a day maximum

But you could do a few toilet repairs and a couple sets of taps if they were all close by

Thanks Shaun for your quick reply. I agree small jobs maybe but some wasn't and they were miles away from each other mostly.

Marty be the master of you own destiny mate work for yourself slip back into it part time theres plenty of work out there build your confidence up again, we all get p-----off at times but our trade i find is very rewarding not just financially , no two days are the same you meet some right characters theres alot worse jobs out there , my advice give it another shot but dont be a slave to others. Thanks very much KOP mate - means a lot. I worked for a building firm at first and had a good bunch of blokes around me - especially for supervisor who was a sparky and we'd be static on a job for 2 to 3 months which I enjoyed as it was static work on private properties. The bloke who ran the firm was a suit who had no building experience and was gutted when he folded the business. This is when I found myself at the mercy of that maintence company and they treated us like crap! I'd love to be able to get on board with a decent firm (large or small) and they'd find I'd be loyal and dedicated. Shame but if you have any tips on getting confidence back I'm all ears mate. i know it may sound silly but a length of pipe and a tub of end feed fittings and just have a go at making stuff

Marty do a few jobs in your spare time bud change a few pairs of taps, toilet syphons, kitchen sinks , showers , outside taps that sort of thing job you can do in a day just to getback into it, put a advert in the local paper for 1 month plumber available for small plumbing jobs and repairs will take a while but if your serious about getting back into the trade you are gonna have to build up a customer base , my advice dont work for somone work for yourself all you earn is yours and no one to answer to best of luck mate cheers kop.
