direct entry to nvq

is it possible to just do the nvq qualification on what appears to be the new qualification? I dont want to go to college as I have been a full time plumber for 10 years, but now need the paperwork to move on!! please advise

Yes

If you cannot sign up to the NVQ on its own, and you have ten years experience, then contact ofqual and demand an investigation.

I have not applied to a college yet about the new qualification. I did enquire about the (6089) a few years ago quite a few colleges said they did not offer it as you still had to go and sit all the exams, do the lead and loads of other stuff!!
Just wondered if still the same on the new qualification? and what training centres are recommended? I do regret not doing this years ago

My advice - get your information direct from ofqual. Training centres may have self interest in selling you more than you need. For the past decade, training centres have been drawing down funding to assess people on sites - hence why there were significant numbers of apprentices aged 25 and over.

Ask for Accredition of prior learning (APL) for 'knowledge' content do the couple of site assessments that C&G require. APL is often avoided because it takes time and it is an 'uncertain' way of going about things - its more simple for tutors to sell you the courses.

If you need further clarification, or support, then check the regulations for NVQs. There are regulatory requirements for qualifications with NVQ in the title.

No problem!

Just another route, which might suite your needs better.

Apply to CIPHE and discuss membership on the condition of a 'professional standards inspection'. Explain your experience and any relevant qualifications (you might have done safety inductions etc).

With professional membership, you are recognised as operating at a particular level in industry - you don't always need qualifications - some of the best guys I have ever seen have nothing to their name!
