Do I need to clean my MagnaClean?

View the thread, titled "Do I need to clean my MagnaClean?" which is posted in DIY Plumbing Advice on UK Plumbers Forums.

10 years ago my kitchen fitter boxed in my boiler and MagnaClean so tightly, that I have not been able to access the MagnaClean.
What is the worst that can happen?
Slow decrease in water flow but no blockage?
Acute blockage?
Nothing?
Anyone have an opinion?
TIA
Phil

My guess is a slight reduction in flow and the Magnaclean will not be able to collect any more dirt but not a blockage. Never tried a 10-year experiement though!

Depends how clean your system was or is, the efficiency of the filter capacity will be reduced because of the sludge build up and lack of servicing but I wouldn't expect the flow through the boiler to be seriously affected.

Worst case the magnet could dump 10 years worth of muck into your boiler.
Most likely it will be fine
Doubt it can possibly dump the bulk of what's already accumulated?? More likely small bits of 'new' magnetite will approach the magnet but not be held and so will pass straight through the filter.
