Drain over flowing - any easy fixes?

View the thread, titled "Drain over flowing - any easy fixes?" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hi all, I’m a complete newbie to all things plumbing and realistically house related and this is an issue we’re having at the moment, our drain is overflowing whenever we use it… is this a situation where I can use the vinegar and baking soda trick or would I have to get someone out ?

Looking at the colour of that water, looks like grease buildup, and food. As per @WC1, carefully get your hand down using a bin liner as a glove, if you’ve no long gloves.

I used to have a flat in a modern high-rise block in East London, and the building management company would regularly send round letters requesting tenants not to wash rice down the sink, as it resulted in the drains becoming blocked!
