With the talk regarding a drought in the Southern quarter of Britain. Will the changing of Bye Laws to Water Regulations along with design and plumbing practice, effect this potentially serious problem relating to health and safety of tenants measured in millions?

I read today that the huge excess of water we have here in Scotland as it's always raining might be getting shipped down South.

I think that regulations will affect the millions of people affected by drought and many of the things that people have taken for granted with water usage will now become restricted.

Drought also has other repercussions affecting everything from wildlife to tourists. The Southern chalk streams like The Test and The Itchen famous for trout fishing may well have water siphoned from them for human consumption st the expense of the world renowned fishing.

Things have not changed for the better Peter. Don't think i have seen a water officer (if such a post still exists) in 20 year. People take water for granted, until the well runs dry.

the water table is more or less the same as it were 50 years ago.

the problem is the population to the area is increasing such as eu immigration settling there.

this is an island and in this circumstance acts like a bath, the more that get in-the less water.

on another note;
if they can lay 400 mile oil pipes, why cant they pipe water from the lakes?.

Cause a real problem if we Welsh cut the pipes (Free Wales Army style), England would go VERY thirsty!

At the end of a recent 3 week period of continuous rain, where we live, I got it grossly wrong when I told the wife that we would be talking about drought conditions within THREE days of the end of the rain. It actually took FIVE days for them to get to it - my old age is getting to me.
