Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent reliable electric shower?

I don't normally fit them so don't have a great deal of experience in knowing what is best. Budget is about £120 max for the shower

Mira Sport are very expensive, for all that they are.
You could try Mira Jump which will be around your max spend or less. Rail kit is tat though.
Redring Expressions newest models are very cheap and look decent.
Some recommend Triton, but I personally don't take to them.
I think you are best having a shower that has 2 separate controls, 1 for heat settings and 1 for flow, plus an on off button.
If it is a replacement shower you need to think of cable and pipe position to choose appropriate shower.

Its a new install, so pipe and cable positions aren't an issue. Just looking for the best performance and reliability for the money.

Check out galaxy showers fitted a few and seem o.k for the money.....whatever shower you end up fitting fill in the warranty card because some seem to last up to a week before the warranty runs out...lol regards Turnpin:yes:

i fit loads of showers and always go mira always good deal and very good if you have an issue under warranty

But how do you find they fare beyond warranty?
I do a few repairs on electric showers and find the Miras give a fair bit of trouble, although I have to admit the odds are quite high that any shower I go to could be a Mira as there is loads out there.
The Mira Sport is not much different inside than some of the cheaper Miras. It is all marketing.
I find Mira Sports have trouble with thermal cut out due to corrosion on top of heater tank. No big deal as it is cheap.

The only reason I go for the triton is most people have a triton I've found round me, so, usually its a simple swap although new install ill always recommend a more expensive shower if they want to pay

Have they not started to charge upfront for warranty calls?

Personally not a fan of mira, but each to their own

Not here they have not turn up within 24 hours , never waited on the phone either usually couple mins and job all sorted.

Never had a fault with a mixer mira under 10 years old but other manufacturers always replacing cartridges. As for the electric versions normally if fitted wrong then they go faulty . Tritons urrgh stay away i get so many faulty relays on them .

I would say its possible water quality in some areas as well water is good here so corrosion side of things i see very little.

Same where I am, Hammers, - water quality is good and showers do not corrode much or scale up. That means there are a lot of electric showers lasting 20 or more years and certainly very normal for 10 plus years. (I have just replaced a Redring 7kw shower that was 1984) That means I know how reliable they really are.
Triton I never liked as a few give trouble.
Old Redrings were bullet proof and only the odd minor part.
Newer type Redrings were also brilliant but some Expressions models then had faulty phased shut down boards. The recent one are totally different inside and time will tell.
Miras were fairly good, but some had issues - including broken cases where the plastic clips hold parts together. Had a fair few that needed major parts and loads that the thermal cut out fails due to external corrosion on top of heater unit.
Aqualisa - stay clear! They are Gainsborough and very poor.
A lot of electric showers have identical components - switches and solenoids.

Im sure it is down to water quality, that being said I replaced a 20 year old t80z the other week, and that had been used daily.
Wont get that time out of any shower nowadays

I have only ever had one faulty Triton electric, so must be a lucky one.
Did have to call out tech once, but realised a soon as the guy opened it up what the problem was, I had taken the neutral off of the other rcd side at the board.
Cue very embarrassed installer, and smug looking, tech guy. To be fair to him though, he didn't charge for visit.

While on the subject of electric showers, does anyone know if there is a direct replacement for this shower Mira Essentials 8.5 J89K? I contacted Mira and all the showers they make these days the electric and supply are the wrong way round. So old was water top left and electric middle left or vice versa

I think Mira, Redring, Triton and probably others all do models that can do one or both sides.
The new Redring Expressions is both sides as options. Strange build though.
Mira Sports and other models were usually all left hand connections

I have contacted Mira and they have said my best option would be a jump but it would still need moving cable and pipe. I didn't want to get into removing tiles etc

I don't know that Mira model, but I guess Mira would suggest only their own models as replacements.
Really not worth doing any damage just to move pipe & cable.
I recently replaced a couple of Mira showers that had the pipe & cable on left, with Redring Expressions model. It comes in a 8.5 or 9.5 kw. It has water or wiring connection either side.
