emergency Call out charges

View the thread, titled "emergency Call out charges" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

I rarely go out after 5pm now, and if I do it's normally someone I know or a good customer. If it isn't and I do go then I would charge probably about £80 like Hammers, even if I'm only there 10 minutes.
Over the years I've found that people who ring me out of hours I rarely see again, it's normally a DIYer that's nailed a pipe, or got so far into a plumbing job and can't stop it leaking that the wife rings up out of desperation.

Might seem like a silly question but as I'm only just starting to do more jobs on the side, when you all get an out of hours call out do you tell the customer your hourly price before you go or once you've sorted the problem thanks

I'vejust had a eemergency call out at 17:33 Iknow iI stated my prices but I just been called out to a leaking toilet she made it sound worse than it was there was water everywhere so I was guessing the feed had popped, got there and the bung holding the water feed from cistern to pan had come loose so when she flushed the water wasn't hitting the pan

Couldn't bring myself to charge her full call out fee she was a little old lady so charged her £20 for 50 mins work she was happy and I left 🙂

My favourite one was a customer put a floorboard nail through a pipe, at 5pm on a Saturday, I was there in 10 mins and he was laying there soaked with his finger over the pipe. I used a tip I found on here, wrapped a screw in ptfe and drilled it into the hole, so he could get out the way, then repaired within about 10 mins. I asked for £80 they gave me £120! Excellent customers and have done about 6 jobs for them now.
