Hi there. Can anyone help please?

We use a Nu-way boxer oil burner for our central heating. It will not fire up because the fan is sticking. This usually is as a result of non use during the summer months. I can get it to work if I take the cover off, turn the fan by hand a few times and then try again. However next time it is the same problem again. It runs for a few seconds and then the automatic cut-off is activated.

Might the burner need some lubrication perhaps? Any suggestions most welcome (my ever dependable plumber Bobby is abroad for a few weeks and I can't wait until his return)

Thanks

Could be the motor is on its way out, but could be something else different altogether.

I presume all the filters are clean?

A technician will be able to identify the fault quite easily.

Lubrication isnt an option as the bearings are all sealed.

If the motor runs and then goes to lockout after having started spinning and running for a few seconds as you say its unlikely to be the capacitor. The capacitor is only needed to start the motor spinning. Once the motor is spinning if the capacitor is at fault, the motor should continue going until it stops when the thermostat tells it to, then and tries to restart again.

Hi everyone, thanks for your input
When it works, the start up process is as follows (and forgive the non technical terms):

the sound of a blower for a 4 -5 seconds is followed by the fuel ignition and the boiler operating as it should

when it fails to operate this is the sequence that follows:

there is the sound of a blower for 4-5 seconds then it stops and a red light comes on the override / reset button(?)

I switch off the power, remove the cover, spin the air fan by hand, replace the cover, switch on the power and if the reset /override button is red, I press it and the burner operates as it should.

Hopefully that explanation makes sense
