How I have never come up against one of these absolutely baffles me

I have had this problem before, but I was completely bam bamboozled. A customer called me saying she had a plumber in to fix the toilet and it hasn’t flushed properly since. That was about 12 months ago. (I couldn’t fix it)I have just text them back to say I now know what it is and would they like me to have another look.😛😛😛😛. cheers Town.😛😛😀

I feel old now! 🙂 I used to install those syphonic toilets, - Armitage brand. Best toilet made!
I repair them still. Not that they need much. The Airex must fit the syphon properly. Tip, - The domed washer on bottom of Airex has to be flat face down against the pan and to fit it correctly on Airex just means pushing it on first part of Airex stem and it will push into correct position when you lower the cistern down onto pan.
The Airex, or also called a bomb, if washer on it is damaged, will cause the pan to fill high up and then slowly drain away, similar to if sewer or pan was blocked.
A good plumber would know a syphonic toilet just by glancing at it. 😉
The pan is not as deep as a normal wash down pan and also if you look at the side of loo you usually notice it had a double trap sort of shape

What I hate about siphon swaps is the Ideal Standard sloping side wall cisterns where a normal shaped siphon wont go in, has to be round or D shaped. Aragh.
Also no room for brass shank jobbie so the nasty part 3 has to go back in. Plenty of room on the other side of the cistern but oh no, it all has to be squashed in on the right hand side why is this?

Best toilets out there. Can't beat a syphonic toilet. Always carry a bomb in the van. Lots of them round my way.

In my own house I still have an Armitage syphonic toilet from 1975.
Still near original except I replaced the small washer on the Airex 2 or 3 years ago.
Ordinary toilets now with the water in pan so low, just seem wrong

Ive only seen one of these once and thats when i was an apprentice and too young to appreciate the educational factor of it, seen the tradesman fit, didn't pay much attention and now i regret it because i just know i'm going to come across one of these in the future

Update on this job for anybody that’s interested .
Fitted a fixed height Dudley 88 ( not the adjustable)and there own aspirator ( thanks to RPM and Shaun ) from toolstation.
Flushing like a gud’un now.
Time wise its been a nightmare job , this is why I wont quote a price for 99% of my jobs.

This was just one of those jobs , it wasnt so much the aspirator, it was the rest , have a read and a laugh..
1 . Couldnt park within 100 yds
2. No isolation valve to toilet, no chance of fitting one, straight out of wall to tap connector, no movement.
3. Stop tap in cellar , he doesnt use the cellar,had to squeeze through a 1” gap to get to stop tap.
4.Stop tap wont shut off, found another , that didnt shut off. Opened all downstairs taps and bath tap before I removed the cistern, water running all the time
5. Fill valve nact , handle nact , overflow didnt line up .
6. Time used up to go to plumbs for new syphon, ordered aspirator off toolstation.
7. Tossing post man delivered parcel to next door and didnt leave a card , total fluke I saw the neighbour the day after and he mentioned he had a parcel.

I honestly could go on theres a lot more but I have lost the will to live lol

Oh the best bit , I charged him £150 plus parts

Think I would of walked at number 4 jon with no full iso mind you i have carried on before with a temp iso valve on the end of the cistern feed pipe before.
