Finding a Ceramic valve replacement

I have a problem with a bath tap unit. One of the ceramic valves needs replacement and I have no idea who the manufacturer is (it is about 5 years old and was purchased from B&Q. I have visited many plumbing shops including B&Q and no-one was able to help. The diameter of the threaded part of the valve is exactly one inch.

I enclose pictures of the valve (apologies for poor quality) and the tap unit in the hope that someonne might recognise it and help.

why not take the cartridge to your local plumbing merchants and see if they have a match, dont bother with the d.i.y stores, have you got a pts, or a plumb centre near you?? try them??

I have taken it to several plumbers merchants but none could help. I've not tried plumb centre so will try that. Thanks

I was in Plumb Center in York yesterday and noticed they had several different types. - There are several different variations on them. Best to take to plumbers merchants. If you can't take the body, at least take the tap head as the differences are usually on the splines at the end of the shaft.

I would give the whole unit a good soak in white vinegar, it looks to be well limed up, the vinegar will remove the lime

I would take it apart and inspect and as plouanse says soak it in white vinegar

You will probably have to count the number of splines and measure other dimensions to make sure you order the right one, or equivalent.

P.S. I have rarely been able to 'recondition' a leaking ceramic cartridge successfully, and now don't bother unless I can see an obvious fault - e.g. lump of crud, or damaged rubber end washer. It sometimes works for a few weeks, then you get called back to do the job properly when it starts dripping again (in your own time!).

i agree nothings made to be repaired these days i take cartridge to merchants if they dont have a replacement then its new taps searching round is usually unproductive
the old rising head tap wasnt perfect but it could be repaired in m inutes using stock items and it lasted 15 years easily

The google has a bigger range, of replacement quarter turn ceramic valves, than anyone else and they have a very rapid delivery reputation.
They also sell replacement discs which will fit most manufacturers valves.
