fitting second hand gas fires

hi guys i need some guidance im getting calls from customers to fit gas fires, but when i get there the fires are second hand. i feel somewhat overly cautious ie only ever fitted new fires-do you guys fit second hand gas fires or do you avoid etc ? thanks

I'd personally avoid it, but I suppose it depends on the age of the fire. Plus you'd have to have the MI's, if these are not available then just walk away

I agree with Villatom. Also You cant say for certain that it has been carefully removed or just ripped out. So you may fit it and find out its not operating correctly and suddenly it is your problem.

you must have Man Instructions to comply to the regs and i would expalin to the customer that any problems with the applaince will be charged as extra work.

Although I suspect that we've all fashioned our own over the years, it should also be the closure plate that came with the appliance

im thinking more on the lines of avoiding, i would rather fit new appliances than take risks with second hand open flue appliances, just surprised some people are happy to buy second hand open flue appliances and whether it should be legal to sell second hand appliances.i suppose its all about the cost. thanks guys

I will not fit second hand gas appliances as generally they are second hand for a reason. Always an issue when the cooker / fire fails your test and you explain that there will be another charge for fitting the next one.

fitting second hand is generally accepted for a cooker when people move and take the cooker with them?so why not other appliances provided you can fit safely and test i see no problem
as far as i can make out you dont actually have to have the mi'sprovided you have access to them so the internet is your friend

Its not the fact of fitting them for me, its the look on their faces when you turn up and appliance that they have bought from a friend of a friend of a friend is junk and needs more money spending on it than its worth. Fitting one that has already been someones and has been taken with them when they move is a different ball game-- generally. It all comes back down to peoples willingness to pay and again generally people buying second hand are skint in the first place.
