Hi,
I'm trying to fix a small 'Baby Belfast' style ceramic sink securely on top of a solid wood countertop but not sure of the best way. Has someone done this before?

The sink has a flange around where the threaded drain connection is, so it requires a square-ish hole of around 6" x 6" to be cut into the counter-top to allow it to sit flat on top of the counter.

Two ideas:
1) After fixing up drain pipework, apply a liberal sealant underneath the sink. Will this be strong enough to hold it in place if someone (ie a child) were to try and pull it forwards?

2) Use some kind of fixing / brace plate with a suitably sized hole to allow it to be placed it over the threaded drain connection and large enough to extend beyond the countertop cutout hole. Then tighten a lock nut up against it so the sink, countertop and fixing plate are pressed together.
Seems neater and more secure method but can't find any ready made fixing plate although i could make one quite easily from some scrap plywood. Is there a off the shelf fitting that would do this?

Any help really appreciated!
Thanks

John

Welcome to forums John, can`t help with the sink fitting problem but sure somebody can.

a dose of silicone when set wil be fine.
if you have ever tried to remove a sink thats siliconed well to the wall, it takes some moving!

Is this for a kitchen? Have you considered how the water will drain off from the plates etc when washed?

As above posts say, you won't need much to hold the sink in place.
Try the sink in position to see if it needs any packers (thin pieces of wood or plastic spacers) to level it at any point.
You could use some silicone on base, but you will make it too strong, unless just at edges.
