Hi hope you can help iam gas safe regd and been asked be a builder to fitt a free standing wood burning stove in a new extion, the flue will go st up 3.2 mt then through the roof and up another 3mt after that to cleat the eves. Now the builder wants black single wall flue pipe from the boiler all the way, but i think it should be single wall till the ceiling then go to twin wall class 1 flue pipe to out side.
Who is right or do you guys have other idears?

Thank you inadvance.

Gas Safe is for gas and does not entitle you to fit woodburning stoves any more than an OFTEC registered engineer can work on a gas appliance.

Installers for solid fuel must be HETAS registered (or the work is done through Building Control at great expense). If you are, you would know the answer or at least have the relevant regulations and documents to answer your question.

I won't give information to people when I suspect it may be used to aid an uncertified and possible unsafe installation and anyone doing so is potentially aiding and abetting an offence.

I can't help but think, he is going to do it anyway... Bit worried now that someone could be killed because no-one gave advise. Just a thought.

erj - Get someone in who knows what they are doing so I can sleep easy.

cant be single wall, starter pipe can but only the around the first meter. needs to be twin wall rated at 400 plus. its all in part j if i remember. Building control will have to sign it off so it will have to be right, fitted wrong and it will be a danger/fire hazard. I would as suggested leave it to a hetas qualified engineer or the builder so you dont get to test your public liability insurance policy.
