I suppose some would say the strong flux brands, as you don't need to clean fairly clean fittings & pipe much, but I would have thought the Yorkshire Traditional flux is best for beginners or indeed pros, as it & the solder flows well & it won't do harm to pipes, even if too much is used. I am biased, as it is my only flux I use. Some will say Laco as it claims to be non toxic - so good for novices not being careful.

Everflux, when i was working on installs, but you end up losing the flux brushes most of the time as it quites a hard sort of flux.
Lacoflux is also good, if your not soldering as much the Lacoflux is better to carry around, you can dip your roll of solder in that one then flux your fittings.

greetings

Laco for me, but don't get it in a cut finger and wash it off your hands before you pee!

Laco here too...

Getting it in a cut reminds you that you're alive!

laco for me as well. i can certainly vouch for not getting it in cuts.

I got told something which is possibly an old wives tale, but it has certainly kept me buying one type of flux. One guy I did some work experience with told me that certain flux's can eat away plastic pipe, so if you have plastic in the system and then flush it through, you'll get called back endlessly for leaks, and probably have to replace all the pipe. According to him the only one he was certain would not do this was fernox. Now that may all be a load of balderdash, but I use fernox all the same. Anyone heard of this or can put me straight that it is a load of balls?

I think Yorkshire Traditional Flux is better than the Fernox stuff, - less aggressive. Don't know if some do attack plastic, but wouldn't surprise me as Everflux & others are sore on copper.

I use powerflow. Tried fernox in the blue tub and I don't like it one bit

I tried the Fernox stuff also, after I had heard a lot of people saying it is good, but not impressed much. The Yorkshire stuff is better.

Laco and i don't feel it in the cuts anymore after using it for 20 years. Gives your hands a nice green tinge if you use it a lot that takes a day or so to get off.

Everflux makes me itch just opening the tub. I hate it.
Powerflow should be renamed as power glue. Makes the fittings stick.
Don't particularly like Yorkshire.
Never used fernox
Fluxite and Telux are good if you want neat soldering work. Like the smell of Fluxite.

Have a read of the data sheets for different flux and see what you are exposing yourself to.

Power flow- power glue. I like it tams. Might try it on solvent weld wastes hahaha

It would probably work. It is rubbish.

If fernox was free I would still rather pay for power flow instead.
Honestly don't think Fernox flux is that bad! To be honest, I don't rate Powerflux at all, in fact I hate all the " self cleaning" fluxes, as they are aggressive & don't seem to solder as nice.
BUT! ... It is just what each of us are in the habit of using & trusting!

The Fluxite is the flux I used for years, - now Yorkshire as I can't get the Fluxite anywhere. I don't know of much of a difference between the two makes?
Agree about the Everflux, it is not for me! I see no need for strong flux.

Grahams still sell Fluxite over here About a tenner a tin. I like the smell of it and it does good neat joints with no runs.
