I've tried using other flux's but always go back to Ever Flux.

I use Power Flow on gas pipe work as I don't want something as aggressive as Ever Flux sitting dry in a joint, eating away at it. Better that it is flushed out.

So what's in the data sheets Tamz. Is it really bad? It does depress me sometimes; the crap we have to inhale just to earn a crust.

I used to like the old yorkshire original. The green stuff but i have never seen that for years

Grahams still sell Fluxite over here About a tenner a tin. I like the smell of it and it does good neat joints with no runs.

Yea, smells can take you back years, - a time when copper pipe was cheap & for all jobs & plastic was only for waste pipes or kids toys!

I had a look for Fluxite on Internet a min ago. Thought it had disappeared!

the first flux i used was laco, 1 of the boys from local firm give it to me, i managed to solder ok with that.. i then bought some powerflow,, just cant get the hang of it,, also bought wickes active found that ok,, expensive though... also when u talk about yorkshire traditional flux, is that a brand name, i noticed that wickes do a traditional flux is that same as yorkshire flux. just one more thing, what makes flux so bad for u en, im guessing its the fumes?? thanks men

Yeah the fumes of burning acidic compound can't be doing the lungs any favours. I don't smoke, but those that do probably don't care about the crap they're inhaling!

My wee mate has just been diagnosed was having emphysema (it is a lung disease). He is 52, never smoked and they (the docs) are blaming the flux fumes.
Just be aware what you are breathing in every day. It all catches up at some point.

Here are some links to the data sheets for different fluxes. Definitely worth a read through.

do u wear a mask when soldering,, i wear a bandanna when mixing up plaster, to prevent breathing in to much dust,, i doubt a bandanna would pervent u inhaling flux fumes

I don't wear anything or i would be running around like the lone ranger.
The fumes are not good for you so choose your poison and hope for the best.

It is Danny. He is all worried as they said it never goes away once it is there. You can only try to stop it getting any worse.

Horrible. Good luck to him, and I guess he's days as a plumber are up? So it's ill health and a career change possibly. Not good.

Poor guy.
