I know this has been done before!! but not haveing personal experience wondered!!

I recently had reson to call the GSR tech help line!

one of the kitchen fitters that I work with rang to ask, the customer wanted the gas hob recessed into the work top to give a flush affect!! not haveing come acroos this before and not being on site to check the MI's I thought that I would ring GSR to ask their advice! only to be told that I should Install in line with the MI's, tryed to explain trhat I was not on site and therfore did not have acces to the MI's and would like advice on the install was then told that it was up to me and if there was to be a problem in the futire that it would be my problem!!

he did finish the call with hope this helps and thank you!!

thanks you for what!! you gave me no clear advise or any help what so ever.

Technical help line?? Why do I pay your wages!!

gripe over! told customer that I would would not be happy to install this way as this would be installing not as per design!!

He did give you advice.
Read the book and make an engineering judgement based on that and your own knowledge.
You came to the right decision anyway so he was a help to you in that he made you think.
Would you rather the guy just said "don't be so stupid" which i bet was what he was thinking.

you wanted them to advise you about what? a gas applaince must be fitted to MI instructions so its not a gas safe matter, why would you think they would have detailed MI on every gas applaince?

Yeah think this should of been a call to the manufacturer if you wasn't sure not gas safe

Hi gas safe helpline, I have just been to a house there is a pipe which is pouring out gas, what do i do?

or I am sat in a house and it really smells of gas, how far away do i need to be before i can have a ***?

Some people are helpful some aren't - all depends who answers your call.
I've usually found gas safe very helpful.

guys i think your being a bit harsh on ADM360. We all sometimes dont think clearly on the job. But he has used his judgement and done the right thing. So harping on about doing it a different way isnt very constructive if you ask me, thats what this forum is for isnt it to help each other out.

I can hold my hand up to doing likewise, I have come to the conclusion that the bottom line is your the man on the job and if it goes wrong your the one in trouble,

I too recently called GSR technical and found them pretty unhelpful & having talked to a few others with the same opinion (and a letter in Septembers GSR installers magazine to the same affect) would think twice before phoning again.

Don't be put off phoning them.
They will always guide you in the right direction but the final decision rests with you. That is what you are trained for.

Hi ADM360
Sounds to me like you probably new the right answer all the time to the customer request, but as we all are some times, you were been inquisitive.
But as the old sayings goes, If you don't know then ask. Better to be safe than sorry.

A problem shared is a problem halved. :banghead:
