HI everyone,

Bit surprised by lack of interest in the job to be honest, only had couple of applicants. one was not experienced enough the other i am trialling on Thursday.

I was speaking to BG engineers a month or so back, they are all leaving so cant see them paying that wage. ones i spoke to were on £32k plus bonuses for selling CO2 alarms etc.

Will let you know how it goes, might be looking for a new plumbing engineer as well shortly, current one is becoming un-reliable and popped in to see him at 4:10pm today and he had gone home and left two weeping ball-o-fix valve. he tried putting silicone on iso bit and decided to stuff some towels round it until the morning. took me 20mins to replace both, not said anything yet he will just see 2 new valves on it tomorrow morning, see if i get a call

Did you get a call? Sat waiting for your response. Ha ha ha .

Harvest, yes apparently you can turn invisible as you were on site all along whilst i was there as didn't leave until 4:30 and was no leak also i just wanted to waste my evening putting 2 valves on for no reason at all. Towels were just there to keep the pipe warm haha

How did you get on with your search? I am still struggling to find anyone who is half decent.

Hi Everyone,

Hired a gas engineer through a agent in the end who approached me. attitude good and good at the servicing & fault finding but lacks in general plumbing and speed of installing. But as his attitude is good i can work with him.

Also got a plumber starting july from same agent, more experienced age bracket but seems to have the right attitude we will see how he goes.

But on speaking with people and feedback from the agent plumbers now seem to want around 40k so dont know what gas engineers are expecting around 50K i guess.

Will have to put all my prices up again if this is the case so i can hire the better engineers.

At the moment i am just seeing constant money leaving my bank account for all the improvements and systems i need to get in place to get everyone working how i want.

Anyone else had any luck??

MFGS - yeah i have found it is hard to find someone who can do everything. people seem to specialise in one sector such as servicing or break down or installs or site work or reactive maintenance etc.

I have always tried to get broad range of experience but seems like a lot of people stick to one thing, this is why i always see 3 BG vans at any job, one holding the light, one to hold the spanner and one to use it.

I have quickly learnt you will not get all you want and main thing i look for is someone with the right attitude and has enough quality and skill to cover their costs that i can then bring on that bit more and mould into the way we work.

takes a lot of bitting my tongue and patience i have found

hope this helps

Yeah, I find people just want to stick to doing one thing. A lot of people get put off because we do a lot of site work. Then the site worked dont want to work in occupied houses!

What agency did you use? What were the fees if you dont mind me asking? I am still looking for 1 or maybe 2 people at the moment.

I think in reality no one makes 50k without working 50 hours a week. When I advertised a job that allows a person to have a life no one applied. Some people are just short sighted I guess. Take the bait of a high advertised salary then quickly get undone when they are coming home from work at 10pm every other night.

I'm getting a bit work-shy. I've started having Wednesdays off to take the bike to the track.
Give me 35k for 8hours door to door and equivalent of 12weeks holiday and I'll wrap things up here👌
