buckley plumb

done a landlord cert on this boiler this week and but when forced into full rate to do gas rate the boiler hummed like a boeig plane taking off. i adjusted the mixture at min and max and the ratio was 0.0005 and the co 8.9% so spot on but still the noise. the customer complains that when it first comes on it makes this noise untill it modulates down.phoned glow worm and all they could say was it could be gas valve fan or pcb some help

A could be anything fault ! get them to call Glow-worm out for a fixed price repair, pass the problem on to them,

i just wanted to get to the bottom of the problem i dont like boilers beating me. but i may give in phoned glow worm and they said it would be the gas valve but i am not convinced.

had the same problem with this boiler but sorry to say i never got to the bottom of it, boiler just stopped doing it !!!

I had this before and it turned out to be a variable gas main pressure caused by smaller plastic pipe being installed which replaced steel pipe down a cul de sack with about 15 houses it was only when I was called to a second house down the same street that it clicked so i went round there at 6 am armed will my manometer to find at peak demand the supply dropped to about 12 mb

Hi guys sorry to start up a old thread but i'm having the same problem on this boiler and been going through all sorts of info on google trying to find a definite answer.

Glow worm 18hxi turns on and makes a horrible noise (like an areoplane taking off as described in earlier post)

Working pressure ok.

Pump runs ok.

The boiler will light up but not for long. I was first there on Friday and it was the same problem except the boiler was running long enough to heat the property after I had bled all the rads so I assumed that it was all sorted but now it's only running for a minute or so.

Boss reckons it's the gas valve but when we were waiting to speak to glow worm kept losing signal.

Any suggestions?

Any other info I need to add?

Thanks

Hopefully Buckley plumb will have a fix!

Is it not sludge related? It seems to be more common in vaillant & glowworm & these both have those spiral type stainless heat exchangers...?

On Friday, the Flow from the boiler was getting hot and the return not (for quite a while at least) so it seemed like an obvious circulation problem but now it's not even doing that. If it was down to me, I would do the CO2 setting and give it a flush for starters.

One thing to check on these. They have three PCB's.

One main PCB at the back. Then a credit card sized PCB and a PCB in the middle (control board).

All the boards are used on other models, and when you replace the control board (medium sized board not main board) it has a four pin switch that you set for the model of boiler and also potentiometers. Check these are all in the correct position.

A previous engineer may have changed the board and not set it up right.

Thanks that's something else to check. The customer said that everything was working fine until a week or so ago. I'm looking forward to getting back there and investigating further.
