Hi all
Having sorted out most of my problems with Landrovers, motorbikes, etc via forums Im now on here asking for advice regarding my combi boiler.

I have a Glow-worm 24cxi which 2weeks ago developed a F9 fault.
Read the manual which suggests;
'SENSOR FAILURE : check o/h stat : check thermistor : check cables : faulty main pcb'

Firstly I switched off the mains for a few minutes which cleared the fault until about 30secs after switching the heating on and the system firing/lighting up, then back to F9.
One thing that is worth mentioning is that if just the tap hot water was demanded/switched on all was ok with no F9.

I removed the overheat thermo and the flow thermi cleaned the connections but with no success until i roughly wiggled the thermo and thermi again....... no F9 and everything working great..... for 24hrs then back to square one!

Bought a new overheat thermo fitted it.... no joy!
At same time bought the 'timer kit' and fitted it as found it new for a tenner.

Bizarrely the system fired up and worked perfectly aslong as everything was completely switched off the water/heating and even the power?????
Switched off on, removed timer, fitted timer....

Current situation...... hot water works ok...... heating has pressure, makes all the right sounds of starting up, shows a temp on the display...... but the burner never ignites??????????????

PLEASE take pity and help with suggestions and my apologies for making such a long first post!

Mark

If your hot water is working fine then "All the right sounds" is unusual coz that to me means lighting up! ... what you got your c/h control stat set at?

According to the manual its the water pressure sensor, but I would advise getting someone GSR in who can sort the problem.

Yep it lights up and provides hot water for the taps perfectly when you only use the 'hot water temperature control knob', its only when you switch on the 'central heating water temperature control knob' that the issue arises.
Not sure of the temp set at moment as at work but no differrent than it has been for the last 3 years since fitted.

Will look at that next, is that from a differrent manual to the 'instructions for use installation and servicing' that was left with me by the fitter?

Thanks for the replies guys going the GSR route would be prefable but Im finding the "Surrey prices" a little too much as the whole house is due to be demolished in 5 months, just trying to get it to tick over until then

Thanks again Mark

ya better off coming online when you're back home Mark coz it sounds like you're way out with your methodology, and what you're describing doesn't really help much .... End of the day the next 4 month could well be prety warm any way, no need for ya heating!!! lol

Prob right, not sure about my methodology being wrong though........... there is no method at all to my madness!! Ha ha ;-)

Realised I forgot to add that when the hot water tap is switched on the boiler kicks in and the 'control light' lights green as per usual
however when the central heating is switched on there is neither the 'all ok Green light' or the 'baton down the hatches Red fault light'???

Sounds like you need a gas safe engineer in, especially as your boiler has a couple of very well known defects which are potentially very dangerous. Bite the bullet and pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Cheers for the help and suggestions
Problem solved... F9 was the CH flow thermistor, the stuff with it working when switched off was the timer having a 'brain fart'... disconnect and reconnect fixed it!

Have you done all your basic gas tests to make sure the installation is still safe, and that all covers are correctly refitted so as not to allow any POC's to enter the living area of your house

I know you have saved a few quid. But don't come back asking for advice if people die as a result of what your doin

We are highly trained in what we do and are goverened by the HSE. Our work gets randomly checked without us knowing to keep us on our toes

Just show a lil respect for what we do. Reading the MIs for the boiler doesn't make you safe !!

Rant over!

I've done nothing but ask questions and give thanks?? How is that not showing respect?
Reading above every one bar your two posts have been helpful and I thank them for that.

But don't come back asking for advice if people die as a result of what your doin
Hmmmm? What advice would I ask about people dieing, 'anybody know a good funeral director'????

You seem overly angry
