hi,pilot wont stay lit. had a look at the thermocouple and it was shattered, and pilot burner was dirty, gave all the parts a clean etc and have replaced the t/c but it hasnt made a difference apart from giving a nice pilot flame when your finger holds the button but as soon as u take your finger off the button the pilot dies. is the gas valve knackered? any ideas anyone? much appreciated
cheers!

from your replies im obviously missing something simple here, but its only simple when you know. il be honest with you the only time i have seen an old gas valve was in the training centre and even then we only looked at it for about 5minutes. this is the first time i have worked on one. (its in my own house and i wouldnt dream of working on one elsewhere until i know them inside out) if there is gas getting to the pilot and the t/c couple is working then am i right in thinking the problem is futher down the line, could be the t/c connector lead on the gas valve as there is something/reason for stopping the valve being held open? it was an ex british gas engineer that told me it was the gas valve, i would be grateful for any help, but not of the bisto variety. i may be qualified but no way would i call myself a gas engineer. think those days are a long way off yet need and want the experience first.
cheers.

how do i sign up to the gas forum?
