called glow worm to a flexicom 30 as its still under warranty - been running fine for about 1.5 years - customer had power cut then had problems with boiler faulting with F1 . gloworm engineer replaced gas valve and worte on sheet gas valve changed and boiler serviced but isolated due to only 4mb wking pressure at boiler 20mb at meter.i went today as customer was worried it had been installed wrong- i got 19.5mb wk press at test nipple under boiler and 17.5mb on gas valve (manual says this boiler ok at press as low as 15mb).I then did a gas rate and the 30kw boiler was gas rating at 44kw gross way to high,no wonder the wk press was only 19mb under boiler .the boiler is fed in22mm pipe.my question is how could the engineer have serviced it if he was only getting 4mb wk press and what would cause this high gas rate.i was thinking the pcb could be faulty causing the fan to run to fast .i phoned glowworm who said the gas valves are standard and preset to suite any of the flexicom boilers and need no adjustment.anyone got any idea

thanks ant

Hi Buckley plumb,
First thought is did you double check your calculations? If you know they're okay you could check that the gas valve outlet pressure is at zero when in operation. Combustion analysis will show up issues also. Some fans also have an adjustment screw on their venturi which alters the air/gas mixture. With it still being under warranty though I'd consider passing it back to them or a joint on-site visit!

It's best not to mess with any of the components coz it can invalidate their warranty, however a joint visit can always be useful in learning something from the warranty engineers if they work on them all the time!

left my number with the customer and asked them to get glow worm engineer to call me.i was suprised he did and was very helpful .the other glowwom engineer had fitted a new gas valve but not set it up as the wk press was only 4 mb -it just was a fluke that i got 20mb at the boiler as the engineer today got 20mb then 4mb and was getting between 28mb and 6mb at meter the governor was playing up.he set the gas valve and called transco to replace meter governor.he said there is no throttle adjustment on the gas valve just a mixture that was out giving a rich mixture burning more gas and the increased press from the meter not helping.

Lucky the guy got to see the fluctuation! Come to think about it though, I've only seen the venturi adjustment on Commercial boilers! Thanks for letting us know the outcome 🙂
