Can anyone please explain this fault?
Just before Xmas my dear old Mum had her Potterton Neataheat (35 yrs 0ld) exchanged under the 'free boiler' scheme. The old boiler and 'S' system were working fine but the annual service plumber told her that no spares were available any more, so it was time for a change. The new boiler Potterton Promax 12 has not worked properly since day 1 and though the fitters and Baxi bloke have been back and changed the old Mini minder programmer and the room stat and the diverter valve on heating side, and turned the pump speed to max, but the problem remains in that the boiler wont fire up unless both the heating and the hot water are timed the same. The heating side can have the programmer live, the room stat turned up high, the valve wide open, and the pump running, yet the boiler wont fire up unless the hot water side is open too. The stress this is causing is getting beyond a joke!

Sounds like it's been wired incorrectly. Get a GSR to come out and take a look. Put an ad in the looking for a heating engineer part of the forum.

Sounds like he has already had a few gsr guys and a manu out to it. Being gsr doesn't stop someone from being a muppet tho.

Check the programmer is not set to gravity, sometimes there a switch in the back

I find electrician are not good at central heating wiring don't know why, they seem to panic when asked to wire central heating, I am lucky that I can do my own wiring.
